PIMPINELLIFOLIA

I love this rose group:  all Pimpinellifolia roses are sturdy, incredibly healthy shrubs. They're great survivors in lousy growing conditions, which means that I place them in difficult garden areas where other roses wouldn't prosper.  If you place them in a deluxe position with plenty of water and great soil, they will grow to over 3 feet; in a poor site they will remain stunted.  I even have Stanwell Perpetual (the only continuous Pimpinellifolia) thriving on our gravel beach where it spends a month or two under the lake water in winter.  Most have delicate, robustly healthy, ferny foliage.

BURNET DOUBLE PINK  Beautiful  double globular flowers, exterior petals curve outward. This is a tidy shrub that suckers and spreads on its own rootstock, producing a groundcover to about 1 - 1 1/2 feet high.  A pleasant light fragrance.  A bonus are the large purple/black hips.  Health is EX

BURNET DOUBLE WHITE  As above, but a white blossom.  Health is EX

BURNET IRISH MARBLED  In my opinion, this is the Queen of the Burnet Roses (old Scottish roses that were in favor in the 19th Century).  These plants don't even need to bloom to be gorgeous --their pretty ferny foliage is sufficient.  The pink to white shading in this exquisite semi double glows with backlighting , as seen here.  Health is EX

DUNWICH ROSE  Has the requisite lovely ferny leaves and gets totally covered with soft yellow single blooms along arching branches.  Will grow to 2 feet by 4 feet.  Health is EX

R. PIMPINELLIFOLIA ALTAICA   1818    Races R. cantabrigiensis and Fru Dagmar Hastrup to be the first rose blooming in Spring.  These beautiful pure white blooms are larger than most in this class and possess prominent yellow stamens.  Health is EX

STANWELL PERPETUAL  This pimpinellifolia is a joy all summer.  While it's seldom without a bloom well into fall, it has two major flushes.  In the first, it is totally covered with lush, fragrant blooms along its arching canes.  Left to grow naturally, it has a lovely arching habit, reaching right to the ground.  Health is EX

WILLIAM III  Dense, tidy and upright, this rose is a fine workhorse in the landscape.  Has blackish hips like its siblings and rich maroon small blooms with a good fragrance.  Health is EX
